Axe throwing is technically hatchet throwing – a smaller and more manageable wood cutting instrument – at a target placed twelve feet in front of the thrower. The target has multiple circles indicating different scores with the smallest, center circle called the bullseye. Points are awarded for where you hit the target, with the bullseye being worth the most points.
Don’t worry, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to safely throw our axes and increase your odds of being the best thrower in your group!
No worries, most of our participants are first-time axe throwers. Your host will educate you on the safety measures required to throw axes (don’t forget – no open-toed shoes) and will show you a few different methods you can use to throw. Your host will also be available throughout your reservation to provide pointers for improving your throws and to ensure safety rules are being followed.
Believe it or not, axe throwing is incredibly safe. We follow strict protocols on when you can throw, where you throw from, proper throwing techniques, how to retrieve your axe and more. Also, (just in case) all of our hosts are first aid certified.
Every axe throwing facility is different. At Chill Axes™ we allow everyone eleven and older to throw. Anyone between the ages of 11-15 must have a parent present. Ages 15-17 must have a parent-signed waiver to participate and everyone over 18 is welcome anytime with a signed waiver.
We are happy to have well-behaved infants who are not mobile visit with their parents as long as they are behind the throwing barrier at all times.
Most of our customers reserve a two-hour throwing window. This gives them plenty of time (more important the bigger your group) to throw multiple games and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere at Chill Axes™. (Plus, we’re happy for you to stay and enjoy adult beverages and comfortable seating when you’re done throwing too!)

We will always do what we can to accommodate changes you need to make. But here’s the fine print:
Reservation payments are non-refundable. Upon reserving your time your full fee is collected. Changes to your reservation time/day/number of people can be made within 48 hours of your throwing time, pending availability. Also pending availability you can add additional throwers or spectators to your reservation by phone or in-person at the time of your session. That cost will be collected onsite. If you are unable to commit to a new reservation time, we will be happy to issue you a store credit via a gift card in the amount of your initial purchase less a $5 per person processing fee. No-shows cannot be refunded, but can be rescheduled one-time only for a $20 rescheduling fee, within two weeks of the original booking. Store credits/Gift cards do not expire. Thank you for your understanding.
Closed-toed shoes are our only rule related to what you wear. Beyond your shoes, we suggest you dress comfortably so you don’t have to blame poor scoring on your outfit…
The Chill Axes bar is open! We have canned beer, wine and liquor drinks available for purchase. We also have soda and water for purchase.
You should expect to be required to show valid ID if purchasing alcoholic beverages – whether you are 21 or 81 – no exceptions.
Anyone arriving inebriated or consuming too much alcohol during your throwing event may be asked to leave and no refund provided. Safety is our first concern, followed closely by fun.
You are welcome to order food to be delivered during your reservation. We have partnerships with a number of local restaurants or you are welcome to bring from anywhere you enjoy. Please ask your host for more details or give us a call if you want to plan in advance.
We have a limited offering of snacks and soda available for purchase.

We are happy for you to bring a few friends who aren’t interested in throwing for a small fee. If there’s room and they change their mind, they upgrade onsite. Everyone in our facility must sign our waiver, regardless of participation.

Additionally when you reserve onsite we’ll ask if you’d like to tip during the payment process, or at the end of your throwing session, if you are happy with their help, your axe throwing trainer appreciates tips (but you are in no way obligated).
Yes, our bathrooms, throwing lanes and access to the building are ADA compliant.
